Savage Police Chaplain Corps

Savage Law Enforcement Chaplaincy Program started in 2001 when Chief Gordon Vlasak planted the seed for a new program that would not only help officers in stressful situations but also be there for the citizens of the City of Savage .

Representing the Savage Law Enforcement Chaplaincy Program are Pastor Will Nordmark of St. James Lutheran Church ( Burnsville ), Chaplains Jon Pratt and Dan Miller of Eden Baptist Church , Pastor Audrey Peterson of Unity of the Valley Spiritual Center and Pastor Paul Cross of St. Mary Magdalene Lutheran Church (Savage).

The Mission of the Savage Law Enforcement Chaplaincy Program is to provide support services to all city employees and citizens in time of crisis and critical incidences, in partnership with representatives of Savage area clergy.

By the nature of their duties, police officers are often faced with circumstances and events that may overwhelm their ability to cope with such circumstances and events.  The internal mission is to provide professional guidance and spiritual assistance to members of the Savage Police Department in times of those needs.

Chaplains also offer spiritual guidance and assistance to members of the general public confronted with crisis events; to serve as instrument of reconciliation by easing stress-related situations involving the public; and to function as a source of positive community relations.

The Chaplains are on call 24 hours a day 7 days a week, and are provided with pagers.  When the chaplains are requested by law enforcement officers they are contacted through the 911 Communications Center.  They all attend a quarterly meeting with the Crime Prevention Officer and attend local, state, regional and international training conferences.

These Chaplains are very dedicated and committed to the Savage Law Enforcement Chaplaincy Program.  We thank you for your commitment and involvement in this wonderful program.
