Who
was Dan Patch and what did he do?
Dan
Patch was a racehorse who resided in Savage in the early 1900s. In 1906, Dan Patch broke the world record by
pacing the mile in 1:55 at the Minnesota State Fair. Dan Patch not only was a great racehorse, he was a crowd pleaser as
well. He was well-loved by people all over the world, drawing huge audiences whenever he performed.
How
did Savage get it's name?
The
community is named after Dan Patch's owner, M.W. Savage. Prior to being called Savage, the village was
known as Hamilton.
What
is the city's on-street parking law? What are the restrictions when it snows?
On-street
parking is prohibited from 2 a.m. to 6 a.m. year-round. Violators will be ticketed. However, exceptions to the ordinance
may be granted if the city is notified ahead of time. Those expecting overnight guests, or experiencing other situations
that necessitate on-street parking, should contact the police department at
952.882.2600 for a variance.
On-street
parking is also restricted during excessive snowfalls. City ordinance prohibits parking on unplowed streets for a
period of 48 hours following a snowfall of two or more inches.

do I call if I want to report a crime?

My
neighbor is planning a Block Party. What arrangements need to be made?
Block
Party permits must be obtained at City Hall through the City Clerk. More information on Block Party permits can be found on

Where
can I renew my driver's license?
The
closest licensing center is on the west side of Highway 13, south of County Road 42 in Prior Lake. The address of the License
Bureau is 14125 Commerce Avenue, Prior Lake. The phone number is 952.447.8817. Drivers licenses may also be obtained
at the Scott County Government Center in Shakopee.
I am
a new resident and would like more information about Savage. What materials are available?
The
City of Savage provides new residents with a variety of information helpful to new residents. Please contact City Hall at
952.882.2660 to request a new resident packet. The community's Welcome Wagon also has information available. The phone

How
do I sign up for cable service?

Is
there a cable channel that provides programs and information related to Savage?
The
City of Savage operates two public access channels for cable subscribers in Savage. Savage Government Television is on
Channel 14. This channel features live broadcasts and playbacks of public meetings held in City Hall, as well as a variety of
programming highlighting local government programs and services. Community Television, which includes shows produced by
residents of Savage, airs on Channel 15.
I smell

Leave
the house immediately. Do not use a phone or any device that could cause a
spark. Then call 9-1-1 from a cell phone at a safe distance or a neighbor's

Put
Put your concerns in writing to the Traffic Safety Committee, City of Savage, 6000 McColl Drive, Savage, Minn. 55378.

How
do I register for recreation programs?
After
the first registration date, which is for Savage residents and, typically, held on the first Saturday
morning in May, registrations may either be brought in to the Public Works/Parks and Recreation
office, located at 13770 Dakota Avenue, or mailed in with the check made payable to the City of Savage.

is the closest Good Will drop site?
The
closest Goodwill drop site is in Shakopee at 1210 Shakopee Town Square. The phone number is
