Emerald Ash Borer

Emerald Ash Borer has been detected in the Metro Area. EAB is an insect that invades ash trees and is expected to have a huge impact throughout Minnesota. The insect is approximately one-half inch long, has a flat back is bright metallic green.

Residents who have ash trees on their property are advised to check them for EAB.

Symptoms

  • bark that is splitting
  • D-shaped exit holes
  • increased woodpecker activity
  • S-shaped tunnels under the bark
  • dieback of leaves in the upper one-third of the tree's branches

The City does not have enough staff on hand to respond to private properties for EAB inspections. The City recommends residents who suspect EAB on their property call a certified arborist or the University of Minnesota Extension Office.
