FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
City of Savage to cancel some upcoming events and activities

Savage, Minn. (March 13, 2020)  Following a recommendation from City staff and the guidance of the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) to help slow the spread of COVID-19, the City of Savage Mayor and Council has authorized the cancellation of all non-essential gatherings, meetings, events, and activities from March 18 through April 30.

Cancellations
At this time, MDH recommends following a “minimum to moderate” level of mitigation as outlined by the CDC. This includes social distancing measures, reducing activities and canceling large gatherings.

The following activities, programs, and events have been canceled March 18 through April 30:

  • All athletic practices scheduled at the Savage Sports Center, 13450 Dakota Ave.
  • All reservations for private events at the McColl Pond Environmental Learning and Event Center, 13550 Dakota Ave
  • All meeting room rentals at Savage City Hall, 6000 McColl Drive
  • Open Walk/Jog at the Savage Sports Center
  • Tot Time and Open Play at the Savage Sports Center
  • Flashlight Egg Scramble, April 3 at the Savage Sports Center
  • McColl Pond ELC Open House, April 4 at the McColl Pond ELC
  • Service Day Saturday, April 18 on the Savage City Campus
  • Arbor Day Celebration, April 25 at the McColl Pond ELC

The City of Savage Commissioner Appreciation Dinner on March 17 at the McColl Pond ELC has also been canceled.

At this time, all other City facilities continue to be open for business during regular business hours.  City Council and Commission meetings will continue to meet as scheduled. The online Arbor Day Tree sale pick up is still planned for April 25 from 10 a.m. – noon at the Public Works Building, 13770 Dakota Ave.

Refunds
Residents who have reserved a meeting room at City Hall or space at either the Savage Sports Center or McColl Pond ELC will be notified about processing their refund. Residents who have registered for the Flashlight Egg Scramble will be notified and receive a complete refund.

We know that this is a significant inconvenience for many of our residents. We are taking these precautions out of an abundance of caution to minimize the risk of spreading illness among our residents, guests to our community, and our employees. Because the situation is evolving, the City will be continuing to evaluate the situation and make decisions on canceling other events and activities on a week-by-week basis. We will keep everyone up to date on any new developments through social media and at cityofsavage.com.
