Emerald Ash Borer Management Project
Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) was found in Savage in 2021. To ensure the city had the most accurate data, staff hired a contractor in 2022 to complete an ash tree inventory for all trees located within City right-of-way and in City parks. Based on that inventory, the City has an estimated 598 ash trees that should be monitored. In 2023, staff engaged a consultant to develop an EAB management plan and estimated costs. The main components of the plan involve removal, preservation by injections, and a replanting approach. Education and outreach to the public also remain important components that will continue and expand. The numbers of ash trees, their existing health/condition, and the Savage budget will drive the rate at which trees are removed and replaced and/or preserved.

Nuvera Fiber Project
Nuvera is excited to announce an upcoming fiber project for homes in Savage. With completion of this project, existing and new customers will have the option to get 1 Gig internet service. Nuvera is committed to keeping disruptions to a minimum during construction, however, as with any underground construction, there will be digging, and new utility boxes set. Construction will take place in the Right-of-Way and existing customers and anyone who signs up for service will have a new drop placed up to the home. The majority of the cable will be placed by directional drilling to keep damage to lawns at a minimum. After the work is completed, we are committed to restoring all disturbed areas to pre-construction condition. The first step of the project will be to mark existing utility lines to ensure that they are not damaged. When you see the paint and flags in your yard, the construction crews will not be far behind. For anyone getting a new drop to their home, you will be contacted prior to the work taking place on your property. Please feel free to call our office directly with any questions or concerns at 952-226-7000 or visit our website https://nuvera.net/gig-fiber/
CenterPoint Energy Pipeline Replacement
Beginning in the spring of 2023, Phase I of a multi-year project will begin to upgrade and consolidate two existing natural gas steel mains into one pipeline that currently runs east to west from the Burnsville Mall to western Shakopee. Authorized contractors plan to work in Savage along South Park Drive from Dakota Avenue to Joppa Avenue South installing a large-diameter natural gas steel main and another contractor will be restoring the areas affected by the natural gas work. This work is being done to better serve the growing area.
During construction, South Park Drive will remain open as the pipe will be replaced under the south sidewalk of South Park Drive. The crew will work with residents on maintaining access to their driveways. Residents’ natural gas service will not be interrupted during this time. Project updates and information will be available on our website at CenterPointEnergy.com/Construction. Click on “Project Sites” and “Savage.”
Prior to construction, underground public utilities will be located. You may see spray paint markings and/or utility flags with different colors for different utilities.
