Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design, CPTED, is based on the premise that "The proper design and effective use of the built environment can lead to a reduction in the fear of crime and incidence of crime, and to an improvement in quality of life." CPTED strategies are ideal for Law Enforcement Officers, City Planners, City Managers, City Council Members, Architects, Security Consultants, Educators or anyone involved in designing neighborhoods, schools, down-towns, buildings, or revitalization efforts. It is an effective way of fighting crime and promoting business.

Our Crime Free Multi Housing program has implemented Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) program during its annual inspection. The Savage Police Department has also implemented CPTED during our Security Survey of residential and commercial inspections. To request a Security Survey for residential, commercial, and/or new construction, please contact the Crime Prevention Unit at 952-882-2604.
